Blech…

I learned something today. I learned that real maple syrup goes bad, even unopened.

I think it was well on its way to being some kind of alcoholic beverage. And not a good kind.

Luckily, I smelled it and tasted it before I put it on my french toast.

::bounce::bounce::bounce::

So my bestest, oldest friend finally got an LJ account. We've been friends since 7th grade, which was at least an eon ago.

According to our last phone call, her little sister's (who is 14, I swear she's 14, she can't possibly have grown up and had kids and..) daughter is nine years old now.

That can't be. I have a baby photo of that kid, she can't be nine.

So yeah. Eons.

Anyway, welcome !

(psst. Don't scare her.)

    WTF happened to ??

    First pics…

    Wow!

I just took 33 pictures of nothing in particular in an extremely short period of time. Got a fantastic shot of Jake's face, and a somewhat interesting picture of treebark.

    Yep.

Just graduated from my point-and-shoot digital camera to a dSLR with all sorts of buttons.

I'm the somewhat baffled owner of a Nikon D50 – w/ a 28-80mm lens. Now I gotta learn what most of those fancy buttons do! <GIR>What's that do!? What's that do!?</GIR>

I've gotta save up for 70-300mm lens. I have no idea what, exactly, that means, except it means ZOOM and MACRO and neato-keen stuff like that.

Now I've got to discover what F-stop means and why I should care. Also, how to make it give me RAW files. Hm.

    Ciao!

    First meme of the year…

    Your Political Profile

    Overall: 65% Conservative, 35% Liberal
Social Issues: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Personal Responsibility: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal
Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
    Ethics: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Defense and Crime: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Hmm. Interesting, really. There were a couple of questions that I answered not with my gut reaction – for instance, the death penalty. Hell yes, I believe it should be used for some crimes. The only problem with it is I do not trust my government – federal, state or local – to apply it fairly, consistently, or correctly.

    That time again

Here's the last of 2005's reading. I'm going to try to stretch my horizons a bit more this coming year.

    063. Chosen Prey – Sandford, John
    064. Mortal Prey – Sandford, John
    065. Naked Prey – Sandford, John
    066. Hidden Prey – Sandford, John
    067. Broken Prey – Sandford, John

I finally picked up the rest of the “Prey” books that I was missing, so I read them straight through. Good fun, well drawn characters.

    068. Rachel & Leah – Card, Orson Scott

Say what you will about the man, but Card writes really good novels. His religious fiction is not preachy at all, and brings the old tales to life. I'm not religious at all, and enjoyed his “Women of Genesis” series immensely. For Christmas, I gave a copy of all three to my mother-in-law (who is a religious person) and she loved them as well.

    069. Wicked: The Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West – Maguire, Gregory

What a fun book! This was a wonderful twist on an old classic. I think I'm going to try some of his other books as well. Of course, reading this one prompted me to read the original.

    070. The Wizard of Oz – Baum, Frank L.

After reading “Wicked”, reading the original was surreal. Especially because I don't think I ever did read this as a child, but of course I've seen the classic with Judy Garland a bazillion times. It was very cool to get back to the roots of this American fairy tale.

    071. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe – Flagg, Fannie

I saw the movie ages ago, and enjoyed it. Reading the book was even better. Very well written, it brought the time alive for me.

    (xposted to and my journal)

    Oh yeah

    Which reminds me.

Six years and one hour ago, asked me to be his wife.

    I said yes.

That very well could be the best decision of my life.

    Love you babe. <smooch>
