Well, I just finished my Government test. I’m fairly pleased, I think I was as ready for it as possible, considering my… tendencies. The multiple guess was a piece of cake, as usual, and the short answer (11 fairly detailed questions, omit one) weren’t too bad. I know I lost a point or two on one – I couldn’t for the life of me remember a current case or topic that’s on the Supreme’s docket – but other than that I think I did all right. I couldn’t skip that particular question, because there was another question I liked less. ‘Sokay, I’m pretty sure I got the grade I needed on it. I’m pretty sure that I’ll get what I need on the final test too – although it’s comprehensive, it’s all multiple choice. Should not be a problem.

Whew.

Well, I hope “whew” anyway! <knocks wood> We’ll get our grades on the test next class session, which is Monday.

OK, now I get to worry about my American Lit test next Monday. :D

==========

Interesting factoid: I’m currently typing this entry on my Palm, with my Palm keyboard. I absolutely love this little keyboard! I’m really sad that the Palm devices seem to be fading. I’ve got some irreplaceable apps on this thing that I can’t live without!

==========

Speaking of irreplaceable: I need to work on a post of “must-have” apps and things for OSX. Maybe I’ll add palm apps to that as well.

==========

OK, it looks like there are some computers free now, so I’ll add more / finish this later.

How can you not dance around and sing to Dr. Horrible?? Whups, almost class time!

Grf.

Well, tomorrow’s my third government exam. I should do well, but I’m still a bit… worried isn’t exactly the word. Maybe anxious is closer. Either way, I must do really well on it, or else.

Blah.

Still kicking myself.

Skool Daze

School has been going well for me. I really enjoy it, and I look forward to taking more classes. Well, except maybe for the Speech requirement. So far I’ve got a 4.0, but alas, that will change this term. The best grade I can hope for in my U.S. Government (yeah, go figure) class is a B.

I was incredibly stupid, and didn’t start my paper until it was much too late, so it was nowhere near complete when it had to be handed in.

Yeah. Believe me, I’m kicking myself.

Oh well. Onward, and all that.

Not sure what I’m taking next term. I’m running out of classes that I can take at the campus closest to me, and I’m not sure how the timing will work out for getting to the other campuses. One series of classes I’d like to take is only at a campus in North Austin.

I wonder, if I manage to get my associates and actually transfer to UT, will they make me put a longhorn sticker on my car?

Hm. I need a school icon.

Reboot day, please

OK first off, it’s raining. This means people in Austin drive worse than usual.

Next, it’s Friday, so Simon (the ACC “cafe”) is closed, so I can’t buy a banana or a bagel.

Fine, I try to buy a bottled Dr. Pepper from the machine – it sounds like it vends, but nothing in the box, and I can’t reach it to wiggle it out.

FINE, I’ll get a can instead. This works, but it means I can’t save it for after class if I don’t finish it.

Now I don’t have enough quarters to buy a Twix bar – no problem, I’ve got lots of dimes and nickles.

The bloody machine won’t take nickles – keeps spitting them out.

FINE!

Grr.

Oh, and I’m taking my first math test today. Whee.

(actually, I think I’ll do well on it. :D)

Unexpected

I got to school on Monday and found out that my History teacher died over spring break. She’d had some upper respiratory crud going on the week prior, and apparently it turned into pneumonia and it killed her.

The disturbing part, besides someone I know however superficially dying without warning, is that she was just 42.

For those of you keeping score, I’m 41. I also, if I get sick, tend to get a horrendous cough that hangs on for weeks.

So yeah, it’s a little disconcerting.

Zoo. Skool. Pictures

Tuesday I went to the zoo again. We get a membership every year, because we want to support their rescue efforts, but we don’t really go very often. I got some pretty cool pictures this time – it was a nice, breezy morning.

Here’s the rest of the pictures.

School is going pretty well. I seem to be getting A’s on all my English essays, though I’m not sure exactly how. History is going well too. I dropped Spanish II though; I felt like I didn’t retain anything from Spanish I! So, I’ll take another run at it… later. Meanwhile, I really like being back at school.

I’m not, however, doing so well with Project 365 – I’ve missed several days. For instance, I still need to take some pictures today. :/ Darned clouds in Austin – no eclipse for me! But, I like the “picture every day” concept, so I’ll keep plugging away.

That’s it for now. I have to remember how to blog again.

Overdue Update

Photography

I joined a photo group called Project 365+1 – the idea is you take (and post) a photo every day. Other than that, there’s no rules – it can be slice of life, “artistic”, whatever. Mine will probably be heavy on the cat side. :)

My cameras are:

  • Nikon D50 (love this camera)
  • Canon Powershot SD1000 (new!)
  • HP Photosmart 320 (old, and probably retired soon)

Anyhow, so far I haven’t missed a day, although I’ve been posting in batches rather than every day. I also haven’t managed to post them on my ‘blog, either. I really need to work on that. Hm. Think I’ll turn twitter posting back on too.

I’m going to “catch up” with photo posting, so expect a slew of picture posts soon. Gonna cheat and back date them, too.

Here’s my flickr page and my Project 365+1 set.

Books

I updated my 2007 book list – I apparently read at least 87 books last year. I think I missed a few, but no more than 3 or 4 I imagine. Maybe this year I’ll actually manage a few “reviews”.

Skool

Semester II! Back for English Composition II and U.S. History II (after 1865). I decided to drop Spanish II for now. I could probably do it, might even manage to pass (seeing as how I somehow got an A in Spanish I) but it would put the other classes at risk. History kinda got the short shrift last term and I really would rather do better this term. So, the plan is to re-take Spanish I for summer term, and take Spanish II next fall. Seriously, I don’t feel that I grasped Spanish I at all; certainly not well enough to dive into Spanish II.

Gaming

Man, I haven’t touched a console in months! I’ve been solely playing DS games. Currently I’m playing Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker – it’s DragonQuest meets Pokemon, and it’s a lot of fun.

Movies

Movies we’ve seen! The moratorium on regular movie theaters is still on – the only place we’ll go is the Alamo Drafthouse; specifically, the one on South Lamar. We’ll do the downtown one, but it’s gotta be for something special. We’ve got a backlog of movies though, so there’s always something to watch when we feel like it.

  • Cars – Fun movie, we were cheering! (Yet another reason to watch at home.) Pixar is just fantastic, although they may be losing it: Ratatouille wasn’t very good, in fact, we didn’t finish it.
  • Finding Neverland – I adore Johnny Depp, and this was a fun and bittersweet story.
  • The Libertine – Damn, I adore Johnny Depp! I liked this movie quite a bit, though Rob didn’t.
  • Sweeney Todd – Oh wow but this movie was fantastic. I’ve always loved the story of Sweeney Todd, and this was a superb version. I cringed at every throat slash and winced at every body drop. This was Sweeney Todd!. And yeah – Johnny Depp. And Alan Rickman! Man, it just doesn’t get better than that!
  • Beowulf – Wow this was cool. Rob kept muttering something about crossing the uncanny valley; I dunno, but I thought it was great.
  • The Dark Side of the Rainbow – Alamo Drafthouse showed this Oz/Floyd combination – a lot of fun, and surprisingly eerie in places. Still, I think I should have had more to drink before going. :D

Cats

Cats are all fine. We’ve gotten through (knock wood) a horrendous parasite infection, but it looks like it’s pretty much over with. The kittens are apparently acting “normally” now, which means they’re alternating being destructive little demons on crack with being cuddlebugs. The latter is the only thing saving them now. That and the fact that they are adorably cute.

All done!

That’s about it for now. I’m sure there’s more, but it’s long past and out of my head. I’m lucky I remembered this much. Now to have some lunch, then start posting and backdating my photos! Hasta!

Huh. Whaddaya know?

I’m not exactly sure how it happened, but…

ENGL-1301 Composition I A
HIST-1301 U S History I A
SPAN-1511 Spanish I A

o_O

Well okay then. Hopefully next term I won’t be running with the edge of panic I had throughout this term. And now I really don’t know what to do about Spanish – I really don’t feel I’ve got a grasp of it at all!

Still alive! No, really…

Wow, so I haven’t been posting lately. I’ve posted maybe a hundred times in my head – but my brain/intarweb interface isn’t working properly.

School! I’ve been going to school! I’m trying to wrap my head around this whole “homework” thing – it’s been about an eon since I’ve “studied”. This semester (which is almost over) I’m taking English Composition I, US History I, and Spanish I. Next term, it’s all the same stuff, only “II”. Ah well, after that I should be able to take more varied classes.

Spanish I is kicking my ass. So far, I’ve got a solid B – but I’m not at all confident about the oral and final exams. I’m dreading Spanish II.

Cats! We somehow managed to be adopted by two more kittens. They’re absolutely adorable, of course. Pictures can be found on my Flickr account.

Well, I’m actually supposed to be studying right now. (Procrastinate? ME??) I’ll post a more complete update Real Soon Now, honest.

Seriously.

Eeeek!

I start skool today. English Composition 1 & Spanish 1. Tomorrow is History 1.

What have I gotten myself into?!?

(any comments here please)
