Here’s some interesting info on that “I Write Like” meme that’s been going around. Now, I don’t see the text he’s referring to; I guess it’s been changed. When I go to results, there’s a pop up for a “newsletter” on how to “become a better writer”.

Combined with the utter bullshit results below, I say it smells.

Thanksgiving

Between Macy’s rickrolling of America and the “Turkeys Away” episode of WKRP in Cincinnati, I don’t think today can get much better!

Confession: We’re having french dip sammiches tonight because the turkey isn’t completely thawed and we can’t be bothered to force it. :D I love a no-pressure holiday!

I’m thankful for:

My husband.
My non-annoying in-laws.
Being able to go to college at this late date.
Many other things I’m unable to articulate.
Also, my husband.

A positive aspect of the Bush legacy

The international community now has a potent new motivating tool to dissuade world leaders from engaging in tyranny and aggression — tell them they’ll be like George Bush if they do it:

Nicolas Sarkozy saved the President of Georgia from being hanged “by the balls” — a threat made last summer by Vladimir Putin, according to an account that emerged yesterday from the Elysee Palace. . . .

The Russian seemed unconcerned by international reaction. “I am going to hang Saakashvili by the balls,” Mr Putin declared.

Mr Sarkozy thought he had misheard. “Hang him?” — he asked.

“Why not?” Mr Putin replied. “The Americans hanged Saddam Hussein.”

Mr Sarkozy, using the familiar tu, tried to reason with him: “Yes but do you want to end up like [President] Bush?”

Mr Putin was briefly lost for words, then said: “Ah — you have scored a point there.”

Since the one year I tried NaNoWriMo I managed to write myself into a corner in less than 100 words, I’ve decided to instead sign up for NaBloPoMo! I did manage posting every day for one month a couple of years ago, so I should be able to do it again.

Anyway, Halloween was nice. Apparently the neighborhood does manage to observe the “no lights, no candy” custom, so no one knocked on the door. This left us free to watch the movies that y’all chose for us! :D

First up was Plan 9 from Outer Space. It tied for second on the poll along with Pan’s Labryinth and Great Pumpkin. We went with that one because after watching Johnny Depp in Ed Wood I had to see it. Also, Pan’s Labryinth was too long if we wanted to see more than one movie.

Hooboy what a delightfully bad movie! I was loving the “effects” and some of the hilarious dialog:

“Atmospheric conditions in outer space often interfere with transmitting”

“…all you of Earth are idiots.”

Next was the movie in first place – Beetlejuice. Love this movie! It’s a lot of fun. Michael Keaton is awesome, and I love Geena Davis. Earth Girls Are Easy is one of my favorite movies. (OK, Jeff Goldblum has a lot to do with that…)

Today, I slept in some while sqlrob was playing Fallout 3. Later this afternoon, we headed out to lunch and Half Price Books. OMG but Dog Almighty is good. Maybe not good for you, but sooo tasty.

When all was said and done, we hit 3 bookstores (2 used and Borders), GameStop, and stopped for ice cream at Amy’s. Yum!

Now just kickin’ back and enjoying a Saturday night. Tomorrow I’ll need to do laundry and a bunch of reading for class.

Worth Protecting.

The conventions of a number of the States having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added.

The Bill of Rights:

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Amendment II

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Amendment III

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Amendment V

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Amendment VI

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

Amendment VII

In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Amendment IX

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Six Apart is selling its LiveJournal blogging platform to Russian media company SUP

Blogging pioneer Six Apart is breaking apart from LiveJournal, another trailblazer that helped bring online journals to the masses.

The nearly three-year marriage is dissolving with Six Apart’s sale of LiveJournal to Russia-based SUP a deal expected to be announced Monday. The financial terms aren’t being disclosed.

Huh. Interesting.

June is turning out to be a busy month! Well, busy for us, that is. :) Got the garage door opener and water heater installed, two vet appointments so far – old cat and kitten stuff. This week is a long overdue hair appointment on Tuesday; a delivery of more media storage on Wednesday, as well as the Princess Bride Quote-Along; and Saturday is a Drew Curtis (FARK) book signing at BookPeople. If that weren’t enough, I get to go to the circus later this month as well! I’ve got goooood seats – center ring, about 4 rows from the front. Close enough to smell the elephants, not close enough to attract the clowns. I’ve already threatened Rob with bodily injury if he does anything to attract the attention of the clowns.

Dad Confesses To Burning Baby In Microwave

Detectives said Mauldin later confessed to putting his daughter in the microwave and said he was frustrated by the demands of caring for her. He said he wanted to get rid of the stress of caring for her.
