Corporations.

“The work force reduction notification is currently in progress,” the notice stated. “Unfortunately your position is one that has been eliminated.”

That's just fantastic. Radio Shack is firing via email. Guess it's slightly better than being fired by texting.

Fsck the RIAA

Because, you know – listening to music/downloading from the intarwebs Steals! From! the Musicians!

<– is currently listening to Bob Dylan's new album.

<– is planning on buying the sucker next time she's at a music store.

This is gooooood shit!!!

A working kludge…

Well, LJXP isn't working for me right now. It's either (a) something with my GoDaddy host that I'm not allowed to do; (b) something I've got messed up with my WordPress install; (c) computers hate me; or (d) some combination of the above.

That's ok though – I've got a satisfactory kludge to meet my needs.

I can write posts w/ Journler, and I can format them pretty much how I want to – it's totally WYSIWYG. Journler can post both to my WordPress blog and to my LJ. It does this by bringing up another window, where it shows my post w/ HTML. I choose the blog I wish to use – at this point I can drop in the LJ code snippet for the header you see above (if you're reading this on LJ).

The sad part is I wrote an AppleScript that dropped it right into the Journler post – and it worked! But it was HTML code to make the cute border, and links and everything – so when I went to post, the < and > got oh so helpfully translated to & l t ; and & g t ;. Sigh. See? Here's the snippet:

<p style='border: 1px solid black; padding: 3px;'><b>Originally published at <a href='https://robandjen.com/jen/'>Jen's Corner</a>. You can comment here or <a href='https://robandjen.com/jen/XXX/'>there</a>.</b></p>

It would've worked perfectly – all I'd have to do is change the XXX to the wordpress posts' url.

So! My fix is, instead, to use SOHO notes, which I love. I've got the code snippet in a Note, and the note is set to a spot on my right-click mouse menu. Works fantastically – I didn't need to bother w/ AppleScript. Actually, SOHO Notes duplicates Journler in a lot of ways – maybe I should just go with that. Hmm. Gotta see if it will post to both blogs. Plus, Journler, while powerful, pretty, and cool just bugs me because the name is misspelled. :)

So again! I'm extremely pleased with this solution – that I solidified while writing this post. Awesome!

</end of completely boring geekness – as well as (hopefully!) the end of test posts!>

La la la – last time for a while

One more time. Even with the error, it seemed to work, at least a couple of times. Let's see what happens this time. After this, I give up for a while. Probably.

Ok… it's not crossposting. But it did twice…. arrrgghhhh. I dunno.

Pooh.

Well, I don't think I'm going to be getting the LJXP plugin working. I'm getting the following error:

Something went wrong – -32300 : transport error – HTTP status code was not 200

There doesn't seem to be a conclusive answer on LJXP's site – I'm guessing it's something my install and/or host is doing that's blocking it. It's not a socket error though, like the others were getting. Hm. Dunno.

Oh well. Journler will crosspost, more or less. So I guess it's ok. I kinda liked that little “originally posted blah blah blah” box though.

Now to do something about that horrid text color. Ugh – css files.

Site Mechanics

Well, I've got a WordPress blog installed and working more or less, and I've got Gallery up and running… mostly.

Now what?

Here we go again!

Here we go again, with another test post. This one, using Journler. Heh – that site uses the WordPress Kubrik theme! Still need to finish tweaking my theme, and/or finding another. What a pain.

Gallery’s doing pretty well I think. I’ll have to start uploading real albums soon.

Whee!

Wonder if the LJ import thing works. o_O

Testing posting to wordpress

Can’t get pretty permalinks to work. Can’t figure out why – they’re working on gallery. Trouble is, in order to get “now reading” to work, I had to have actual access to the mysql database, so I had to uninstall from godaddy’s side, create a mysql database (no problem, I’ve got 25 available) and install it myself. Mostly worked, except for some reason the rewrite doohickey isn’t. But I did get “now reading” to work. It looks like hell though. Too bad, I was starting to like this theme. Yes, I know the text color sucks ass – I haven’t gotten around to tweaking that yet. Suffice it to say that the previous image color was barfworthy, though the style itself was nice.

One victory I had was the random photo from gallery. I’m extremely happy about that snippet.

And a defeat is the post to wordpress AND livejournal thingy. I’m hoping that the one I found isn’t the one that Orb & Piper use – because it failed miserably. Too tired to try to figure out why right now, maybe I’ll get Rob to help me with that one too, tomorrow.

Uh oh. I better find out if Journler can post still. It did before.

So wrong

It's so wrong that not only do I “get” this comic, but it made me laugh out loud. :)

Enjoy:

Ok, you've got geek comics, gaming comics – but this is, hands down, the geekiest comic out there. I love it. http://xkcd.com/

A little knowledge…

Wow. That's got to be a time record for breaking Gallery.

o_O

Wonder what I did….

EDIT 8:46pm: Annnnnnnd now it works. See, this is why I hate computers. You do the exact same thing two or three times, and get two or three different results!!! Isn't that what insanity is?!?

Gah.

Ok. Let's see if I can break it some more.
