How cool is this?

Background info:

1 – Our morning routine is such that after the alarm goes off and a couple of snoozes are hit, gets up and goes downstairs to get cereal. I stay in bed a bit more, then get up and go into the computer room. Usually, Rob's there before me, munching on his breakfast.

2 – I'm playing Animal Crossing. In this game, you can buy/find stationery to send letters to other NPC's and other players. My town has four players – named Jen, Rob, Lisa, and Jeff. I'm the only one playing this game, I have the four characters so that I can get More Stuff faster. Me, obsessed? Completely.

So, the alarm goes off, snooze is struck. Rob gets up a little earlier than usual. I pull the covers over my head. I hate mornings. He goes downstairs. I doze for a while, then struggle out of bed when my morning dreams get too weird. I go into the computer room, which is closed. Huh, says I. He's usually up here by now.

Rob comes upstairs, wishes me Happy Birthday, and tells me what he's been up to: he was trying to get Rob in Animal Crossing to send Jen a birthday card. He was thwarted at every turn! AC Rob didn't have any stationery. Neither did Jeff or Lisa. Sometimes there'll be stationery at the dump, or at the lost and found in the police station – not today. He couldn't go buy any, 'cause it's the 31st – which means raffle day and the store is closed.

How freakin' cool is that?? He doesn't play this game. He's watched me play it, and half the time it puts him to sleep. Talk about your warm fuzzies – I have such a cool husband. :)

Crap.

Johnny Carson died.

memeage! This could be interesting…

Finally. :)

Apparently I'm on Madcow, subcluster 9.

Friday?

This is one of those lame “I'm still here!” posts. :) This past week and a half have been just nuts, and I haven't had the energy to post, or I haven't had much to say. Or at least, not enough to say to actually make a post. Which is a silly excuse, really, but there you go. :)

Let's see – we've been working late pretty much every night. I don't even really know how that happens, but happen it does. In fact, I'm at work Right Now, but I'm not on the clock because I hit 40 hours a half hour ago.

Besides work, I've been completely and utterly obsessed with Animal Crossing, and my PDA. In fact, I've combined them. I can't believe how incredibly geeky and obsessive that is, but that's what I've done. Truly, I am ashamed of myself. At the same time, quite pleased because it's Just Plain COOL!

Due to the above obsession and getting home late every night I haven't done much reading. Right now I'm reading Dragon's Kin which is a Pern novel, but it's written by Anne McCaffrey and her son, Todd McCaffrey. So far, I'm a little disappointed. It seems… dumbed down. Written more to a grade school level, and not nearly as rich as the rest of the novels have been.

That's it for now! Got a nice long weekend coming up, and plans for absolutely nothing! Gotta love that. :)

Go figure. (YAT)

Shoulda guessed that from my palm post yesterday. :)

Just a test post from the new palm. I think I'll call her Athena.

Book 1 – The Warlord of Mars

And on to the 2005 Fifty-Book challenge!

This year, I resolve to not let more than 5 books go by without posting, and I'm going to try harder to write better reviews. Or something. Also, I'm not going to count anything I read last year – I'm not going to eliminate re-reads, but I'm going to try not to read anything I read last year. Except for Harry Potter. Gotta re-read those when Half-Prince comes out! Anyway, here is the very first book I've read in 2005!

001. The Warlord of Mars – Edgar Rice Burroughs (01/02) – Sci-fi/fantasy. Dated, yes. Quaint, sure. But it's still great action and a fun read.

Out with the old, in with the new!

Well. I didn't quite make it to 125 books – I spent too much time playing with my new Palm. Click here for the last of my 2004 list!

113. Pyramid Scheme – Dave Freer & Eric Flint (10/26/2004)

Oh, this was funny. You've got an alien artifact abducting people and throwing them into a jumbled up ancient mythological world.

114. Digital Fortress – Dan Brown (10/31/2004)

This book was pretty good. At first I was afraid I'd be rooting for the bad guys in this one, but it all worked out all right.

115. H is for Homicide – Sue Grafton (11/05/2004)

Another of Grafton's alphabet mysteries – always good brain candy

116. Disclosure – Michael Crichton (11/19/2004)

A little different from Crighton's usual, but I enjoyed it.

117. The Worst Day of My Life, So Far – M.A. Harper (11/27/2004)

Hmm. I can't say I liked this book, but I can't say I didn't either. It's a woman coming to terms with caring for her mother who has Alzheimer's. She seemed highly passive-aggressive and self-martyred which got a little wearing. Still, it was worth reading.

118. Skipping Christmas – John Grisham (12/01/2004)

This book had been on my “want to read” list long before the movie came out. I was disappointed actually – and if I lived in their neighborhood I'd probably be on the rooftop with a sniper rifle. Still, it had some pretty funny moments.

119. Good Faith – Jane Smiley (12/18/2004)

I liked this one – it's about real estate in the 80's, before the crash.

120. The Lottery Winner – Mary Higgins Clark (12/24/2004)

A bit different from most of her stuff, this is short mysteries with the same sleuth. I'd compare it to the Pollifax mysteries.

121. Easy Prey – John Sandford (12/26/2004)

I really enjoy Sanford's Prey series. You don't really have to read them in order, but if you do there's a rich backstory around the protagonist. If not, the serial killer mysteries are good on their own.

122. The Price of the Stars – Debra Doyle and James D. MacDonald (12/30/2004)

Just your basic sci-fi, and yet again book one in a series. This is the one that kept me from hitting 125 books – I should've put it down and whipped through my Barsoom books. :)

123. A Princess of Mars – Edgar Rice Burroughs (12/31/2004)
124. The Gods of Mars – Edgar Rice Burroughs (12/31/2004)

Classic sci-fi/fantasy – this is the real stuff that inspired many authors. It's also a must read if you're a Heinlein fan that wants to get the most out of Number of the Beast.
