So a week or so ago a site I went to had a brief survey on spam. I forget where I was or why, but I answered the (newbie-ish) questions. One was how much spam do you get in a week. Well, I guessed at it, because lately (read: about the last year) I’ve been just ignoring spam, rather than fight what seems to be a hopeless cause.
But it got me curious, so I decided to start keeping track. This past week, from 1/24 to 1/30 I received 258 unwanted pieces of e-mail advertising mostly scams, snake-oil, and other assorted crap. I was generous – there was a handful of e-mail that I’m fairly sure I didn’t ask for, but I recognized the site it came from. I honestly don’t know if I opted in or out of those, so I didn’t include them.
Two hundred and fifty eight pieces of spam. That’s 36.9 pieces per day. This includes all of my e-mail addresses, including my hotmail one that is completely spam-infested. I get around 200 emails a day – which means one entire day’s worth of e-mail is spam.
Bah. Maybe I should jump back into the anti-spam fray. I think at a minimum I’m going to keep a closer eye on my spam and see what patterns are there.

once some awful company spammed me 258 times in one day. I was pissed!
