But I don't *like* SPAM!

So a week or so ago a site I went to had a brief survey on spam. I forget where I was or why, but I answered the (newbie-ish) questions. One was how much spam do you get in a week. Well, I guessed at it, because lately (read: about the last year) I’ve been just ignoring spam, rather than fight what seems to be a hopeless cause.

But it got me curious, so I decided to start keeping track. This past week, from 1/24 to 1/30 I received 258 unwanted pieces of e-mail advertising mostly scams, snake-oil, and other assorted crap. I was generous – there was a handful of e-mail that I’m fairly sure I didn’t ask for, but I recognized the site it came from. I honestly don’t know if I opted in or out of those, so I didn’t include them.

Two hundred and fifty eight pieces of spam. That’s 36.9 pieces per day. This includes all of my e-mail addresses, including my hotmail one that is completely spam-infested. I get around 200 emails a day – which means one entire day’s worth of e-mail is spam.

Bah. Maybe I should jump back into the anti-spam fray. I think at a minimum I’m going to keep a closer eye on my spam and see what patterns are there.

Music

Oooh, I like this Melissa Etheridge album. Her first three are my favorites. Breakdown didn't really do much for me, but Skin sounds great!

Yay me!

Got a new cd today!!!

Melissa Etheridge – Skin. Love it!

Neat web tricks

I just love this clock!

Music

Just finished organizing my mp3's again. This time I'm going to reburn them so I don't have to do that again. So that will leave me with the presorted 6 cds worth. Anyone want 'em? If you do, let me know and I'll mail 'em to ya. You can see the playlist here.

Now to see if I can find the ones I lost…

Cookies

So the other day I made chocolate chip cookies. Makes approx 5 dozen or so says the label on the chips. Hm. Must be the new math. I never knew 5 dozen = 30.

Ramble

So here I am again, after another absence. It's almost midnight on Friday night and I'm curled up in bed with my electric blanket and the laptop. Dinner was Butter & Garlic Pasta Roni with garlic bread – not the best of meals, but it was yummy. A while ago I tried to de-bounce my dog with the laser pointer. A cattledog mix probably wasn't the best choice in the world for us but he's such a good dog; he's very sweet and easy going – and has tons of energy.

My pc is back, minus the blown hard drive and plus a new power supply. It seems ok. Then I went ahead and put Win98 back on instead of 2K. This time I lost my quicken files, because I forgot to back them up. Oh well – it's not as devastating as it could have been since I'm getting rid of that bank account anyway. I'll just move my paltry 401k and sucky stock info over to Rob's quicken.

In the Great Crash of 2001 I lost the drive that held all of my mp3's. All six cd's worth. Which I had just finished organizing into folders by genre. I've restored them from cd, of course, but I have to go back and reorganize them again, which was a royal pain. Plus I lost a bunch of new ones. :( Hope I can find them again. Maybe this time I'll re-burn them after I get 'em organized!

I'd like to get into the habit of writing more here. I really enjoy reading my friends list, and I feel mildly guilty for not contributing much. So far my journal has been mostly news snippets, minor peeves, and silly tests. Not that there's anything wrong with that of course, I'd just like to get a little more depth here as well. :)

This past week I've been sick. Every year lately I get this cold-like thing that's a royal pain in the ass. I never feel nauseous, thank $DEITY but I get a sore throat, then a cough that gets worse and worse. Voice goes and the cough stays on. I'm in the end stage now, but this cough will stay for probably a couple more weeks. Bah.

Saturday morning now. I got tired last night, and was having coughing fits anyway, so I gave up. I really need to get motivated to get my life back together. The house is awful, my desk is disgusting, my brain is mush, and oh yeah, I still need to get a job. But hey, my webpage has never looked spiffier! Bah again.

Speaking of wastes of time, I found an awesome mah-jong game. You can download it here, but I warn you – it's addicting.

Well, Jake's ringing his bell to go outside and I really ought to take a shower and get dressed, so that's it for now.

Hasta!

Gotta get your woodgie-coo fix…

Random Kitten Generator

Warning… Possible posting frenzy ahead…

First off, the ever-popular online “tests”. They're silly and fun. :)

Burgundy Patent

I'm the badass burgundy patent Doc Marten…
I'm cool as hell, I'm deep,
and maybe a little dark

Which Doc Marten are you?

Grrrrr

Aww, shit.

One of my favorite LJ people deleted her journal. :(

Harry, come back. :(
